Just the Right Book

Just-the-Right-Book

Hey guys just a quick post here but I wanted to tell you about a cool new service called Just the Right Book.   Its pretty awesome and would make a great gift for the book lover in your life.

You log on to their website  http://justtherightbook.com/ and you create a profilejust right book

They ask you about your favorite books, authors you like, shows you watch and any additional comments (like I put that I’m LDS there and need things to be pretty clean).  You can also give this as a gift and put their preferences and it comes wrapped each month/bi-month/quarterly that you order.  You can also pick between paperback, hardcover or mixed.  The lowest cost is quarterly, paperback for $85 a year including shipping.

You can also return a book if you don’t care for it or already own it.  Pretty neat right!

Check out my youtube video to learn more

This is the book they got me this month and it is one I’ve wanted to read for a while.  I think they did pretty good

Box Month Review

The award goes to…

(Excuse the length of this video.  A lot to cover 🙂  ).

After a month and half of trying subscription boxes I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.  I hope you have all enjoyed the reviews.  I now plan on moving on and covering only an occasional box on the blog (I want to keep the blog varied and interesting).  My goal with the blog has always been to be like a magazine for me.  Stuff I think is interesting, fun, exciting, meaningful.

Basically the blog is an exercise in self-indulgence that somehow has interested all of you.  I write about movies, books, politics, religion, writing, vacations, subscription boxes, swimming, current events, TV, weight loss and much more.  Thanks to all of you for reading my ‘silly thoughts’ as I say in the byline. More to come.

What would you guys like to see more of?  What posts have you liked more than others?  My movie posts are always quite popular but I’ve been on a bit of a movie drought lately.   I would love feedback.

Whimsey, Blush and Watanut

So I figure I’d make it an record 3 posts today.  So much to get caught up on.  I came home to find more boxes to sample (some I paid for 1 without having to subscribe).

First one blush

blush august

This box had an incredible value and the nice thing is you can subscribe for $24.95 or buy it individually at $34.95

They also do a beauty profile and ask you to guage your fashion sense.

Here is the breakdown of the bag

Blush mystery bag
22 Mowie Wowie
18 Mor hand cream
2 Intelligent beauty restorative conditioner
20 Vapour Elixer Lip Gloss
5.71 Eminence Dermafoliant
22 Carita Progressif Mask
10 anastasia topcoat
4.48 coola sunscreen
14.4 pixi eye pen
1.87 dremu oil
8.43 sales tax
128.89 value of bag
price of bag 24.95 with subscription
34.95 for individual bag
 103.94  value

Pretty amazing value right?

The other two boxes I tried are whimsey, a craft box, and watanut, a food box.

I was very impressed with the packaging of whimsey box and the craft looks really fun.  Its $15 a month which is significantly less than other craft boxes.  This month is a bracelet and I think they look really pretty. I’m excited to get my craft on.  This would be a fun box for a group of girlfriends to all get or teenagers.  FHE activities!

Watanut is a nut box and everything seemed yummy; however, I don’t think it is as nice as naturebox.  With naturebox you can pick what you want and you get 5-7 bags as opposed to only 4 with watanut.  Still, everything tasted good.  Its $25 a month. Something to consider.  Would make a nice gift since you can order them individually

Gwynnie Bee

Hi guys! I wanted to tell you about a cool new service for plus size fashion.  Readers of this blog may remember my feelings on plus size fashion as featured on this blog https://smilingldsgirl.com/2010/10/16/a-note-on-plus-size-fashion/

However, bad fashion aside one of the problems bigger girls like me has is that our sizes can fluctuate greatly depending on a ton of different factors.   I’ve changed sizes in as quick as a month both on the upswing and downswing.  This can be extremely discouraging and expensive.  Most of the time it leaves us girls wearing frumpy clothes that are too lose or tight (both depressing).  You don’t feel pretty but you don’t want to invest in new clothing that you may only wear for a couple of months.  So you end up buying something cheap that is hardly flattering.  Basically you settle.

Well, someone has finally figured out a solution to this problem.  Its called Gwynnie Bee.  It is basically the netflix of clothes.  You log on to the site and then build up your ‘closet’ full of shirts, skirts, dresses and blazers (no pants for some reason?) and all of them are size 10 to 30 and designer names.  You can then pick a plan ranging from $35 for one piece of clothing, $59 for 2, $79 for 3.  For basically the price of a pair of jeans you can look fresh and new.

It only takes 2 days to send you your clothes and it includes a usps bag to seal up the garments when you are finished.  Then in 2-4 days you get the next items on your list.  Here’s an overview

Don’t you think that is a clever idea?  My only concern is that I need pretty modest clothes because of my religion and they have too many short dresses (I am also 5 ‘8 so what is short to me may be just right for some).  Right now you can try for free for 30 days.

Box Month: Escape Box

Forgive me for writing quickly.  I am so tired today.  I stayed up to late and ended up getting around 4 hours of sleep.  I hope I can crash tonight.

Anyway,  I am down to my last two boxes for box month 😦 .  The mail won’t be the same after this month and I still haven’t decided which one’s I’m going to keep.  Which one’s have you liked or been interested in?  Once box month is finished I will give the blog a rest and only do periodic updates but you will be able to find photos and such on my instagram.

Today I received a brand new box.  Meaning this is the inaugural box. (This also means they are eager to get it out there so contact them if you have a blog with hits or a youtube channel).   You can get 20% off using code ESCAPENOW.  With this discount the box ends up being $39 and while that is a lot for the box you will find the value is there.

So the idea behind this box is you get all the stuff to get to know a vacation spot, including a guidebook if you decide to travel there.  They also have a contest and give away said vacation with each box.  There aren’t a ton of subscribers since it’s new so I think you chances are higher than in other sweepstakes.

The box this month was on Napa so unfortunately for me it had some wine/tea items I will not be able to eat.  However, my friends will or I will use them for topical applications.  Fortunately even with those items removed I still save $20 on the contents of my box.  Pretty good.

Escape box. Pretty good, right.

Box Month Continues: Goodies Co and Naturebox

Got two more boxes today for box month and they are both food boxes.  I think the last of my food boxes.  If you want to do a box month contact the different subscriptions, tell them about your blog and you may get lucky.  Its been really fun.

Goodies Co-

This is a great box for those that want to dabble in boxes but don’t want to invest much money . It is only $7 a month!  I spend that much on a cafe rio burrito!  They also have a points system where you can add reviews and get discounts, free shipping on products.   It is a smaller box and the value came to right about $7 so its not a huge value box but the cost is so low I think it has its appeal.

This is not specifically a healthy box; although all of the products appear to be all-natural and ingredient conscious.  Mostly its a snacking box. They have an adult box and one designed for kids.  I got the adult box to to try and enjoyed it.

goodies

Naturebox

I have already talked about this box on my blog because its one I have done for a couple of months.  I love it.  Its my favorite food box.  The great things about this box is you can pick what products you want, they are full size, all nutritionist recommended and yummy! This box is a great bargain too.  My box this month was valued at $27.11 and that is being conservative.  I think it would be great for an office breakroom.  You could get healthy snacks for your employees without having to go to the store or to Costco!

It is definitely the largest of all the food boxes I tried and still my favorite.  I highly recommend it.  They also have lots of gluten free and vegan options so you just pick what you like.   I can’t recommend it highly enough.

This month I tried a few new things like the guacamole bites and garlic pumpkin seeds and some of my favorites from past boxes like the cheddar pub pretzels (so good!).  You can also be suprised by snackbox if you prefer and you can add on to your box for a very reasonable fee.   Naturebox is not a sample box.  All of the products are made with the naturebox label which is part of the reason why you are given such generous amounts for the $19.95 cost.  I love it.  Give it a try!

naturebox

Naturebox
4 pumpkin seeds
3.34 cheddar pub pretzels
4 plantain chips
4 peanut butter nom noms
4 guacamole bites
6 veggie chips

Lip Factory Review and Unboxing

My last beauty box for box month is here.  Its called lip factory and I had quite the story getting it here.  I had entered my information and then received an email from them saying they needed my address.  I gave them my address but for some reason it was sent to 1357 instead of my number.

With it being returned in the mail I tried to contact them to no avail and their website was down so I got nervous.  I cancelled my account and then posted a comment on their facebook account.  Within a few hours they responded, apologized, explained the situation and sent me a new box that got here quickly.  All in all I think they handled the situation very well and I left feeling impressed.

This box is $22 so it is more expensive than Birchbox or Ipsy but it has much larger samples, some full size.  It also has a larger beauty profiling service than either of those sites so you get the colors that work for your skin type and coloring.  I found it to have a $53.99 value which is a great return.

It is only for girls that wear makeup.  It doesn’t have a lot of health products such as lotions and hair products like ipsy and birchbox have.  I’m a medium makeup wearer but I like it and like trying new things.  I wish I knew how to do my makeup better but I try.

Anyway, here’ s the review.  2 more boxes left for box month!  Fun!  I hope you guys are enjoying learning about these subscription boxes and let me know if you decide to subscribe to any and what you think.
