Last week I had the special chance to attend the D23 Expo in Anaheim California. This is a biannual event that showcases all things Disney. You can see all the highs and lows of the expo in the video above but while I was out there I had to take a chance to spend a day at Disneyland. I haven’t been to the park since the last D23 Expo so it’s becoming a bit of a tradition for me. I love Disneyland especially done my style- solo, slow, lots of good food and focusing most on the attractions Walt built.
Recently there was an article criticizing ‘childless millennials’ going to Disney World. This was ironic to me because I think Disneyland (I’ve only been to Disney World once when I was 12) is the perfect place to solo travel. It’s safe, easy to navigate with plenty to do so you don’t feel bored or lonely. There are even solo rider lines for popular rides which allow solo travelers to do more and wait less!
I also like to take Disneyland slow without the compulsion to go on every ride or do every activity. I take lots of rests and just enjoy the clean, well kept park with friendly castmembers. This was especially true after having just spent 3 exhausting days at D23. In fact, I didn’t know if I would be able to spend my day at the park after all because the night before my back seized up on me and I could barely move. Luckily I was able to get it to release and could handle my slow, breezy day.
Despite my slow pace I still did 14 rides on my day at the park! The addition of Galaxy’s Edge has thinned out the crowds at Disneyland and made almost every ride and attraction under 20 minute wait! I particularly love the old school rides like Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, Small World and The Enchanted Tiki Room. Unfortunately the Haunted Mansion was closed because that is also one of my favorites. I love dark rides and am not a big fan of ones with big drops or that whip you around (I did Thunder Mountain Railroad for some variety but it’s not my favorite).
I love the food at Disneyland and it was super hot which made me quite ravenous (I could not keep enough fluids in me! Everything is yummy at Disneyland even something like their pickles are the best and so refreshing on a hot day. I went to lunch at the Riverbelle Terrace restaurant where I had pork spareribs, mashed potatoes and baked beans which was delicious!
I finished out the night going to the new Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge and aside from the disgusting blue and green milk I had a great time! The land is very immersive and because of the single rider line I was able to ride the Smuggler’s Run pretty quickly. It’s a great ride! Not only do you get to fly the Millennium Falcon but you actually are given a job to do and buttons to press while riding. I have never been on a ride quite like it. I was afraid I would get stomach sick like on Star Tours but they keep you busy enough that I didn’t. It was really fun. I also thought the ronto wrap at Galaxy’s Edge was pretty tasty.
I’m not sure how much replay value there is in Galaxy’s Edge but as a massive Star Wars fan it was a great time (I only go to Disneyland every couple of years so replay value isn’t that important anyway). Just trust me and don’t get the milk. Yuck!
So that was my day at Disneyland! It was a blast. Now I just need a little vacation from my vacation to recover! LOL.
How do you like to do Disneyland? What are your favorite rides? favorite Disney food? I’d love to hear. Have a magical day!
